JR. MAIN STREET

Jr. Main Street is a brand new FREE opportunity for our youth to get involved with the community. Many of our youth graduate from high school and move away, never to return to Green River…others wander around looking for an outlet or someway to fill their time…well now is the chance to get our youth focused on the positive and learn about the rewards of volunteering!  Jr. Main Street provides an opportunity for young citizens to become involved in public issues thus acquiring a greater knowledge and appreciation of their community.

This program is still being established, so you can get involved from the beginning.

JR. MAIN STREET ACTIVITIES

• Determine the goals of the Jr. Main Street Program
• Plan and implement social, educational, cultural, community service and recreational activities for young citizens, especially in the historic downtown
• Work on projects to beautify our downtown
• Learn about architecture
• Learn about Green River’s historic buildings
• Promote historic preservation and downtown revitalization
• Educate other youth in schools about the Program
• Promote the downtown and all downtown activities
• Serve the youth of the community by informing community leaders and elected officials of the needs and
       wishes of young citizens
• Create artwork for promotional materials, posters, flyers and event backdrops
• Take pictures of downtown buildings, architecture and assets
• Assist with Main Street annual events including Auction Dinner, Farmers Market, Trunk or Treat and others

 

BENEFITS OF PARTICIPATING IN JR. MAIN STREET

• Creates a feeling of positive worth and self esteem in young people
• Teaches young people to work with public officials, school administrators, non-profit groups, service organizations, civic clubs      and other public/private groups
• Teaches teamwork and respect for the rights and property of other people
• Promotes community pride and eliminates potential negative influences among the future leaders of the community
• Challenges our youth to think about the future, not only the future of Green River but their own career future
• Provides youth the opportunity to be innovative in their thinking and how to see an idea all the way through
• Incentives are still in the works! Incentives will be set by the Main Street Board and the youth involved with Jr. Main. Some      idea are awards, an annual activity, a retreat, a road trip, a pizza party…or whatever else our youth expresses interest in
• All participating seniors will qualify for a scholarship

     This program will be customized by the youth that are involved. We currently have a list of interested young citizens. Adult      supervision will always be present!  Meetings will be a few times a month but no dates or times have been scheduled.
